The thorn like protrusions on the stem

are an unusual anti roll or firm grip feature

on this fragment found in the topsoil

 

 

 

It appears to be from a slip-cast porcelain pipe

Path Reinstatement

Most of the flags were taken up many years ago.  Many broken ones have been found buried in the garden and these are being used between preservative treated salvaged timber edgings.
